MOUNTAIN VISTA MEDICAL CENTER OPENS FOR PATIENT CARE
State-of-the-Art Hospital Brings
High-Quality Healthcare to the East Valley

Mesa, Arizona July 23, 2007 – Mountain Vista Medical Center, a brand new, full-service, high-tech hospital opened its doors and begin caring for patients at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 23, 2007.

“We have been preparing for our opening day for over two years, and we are thrilled that we can now provide care for our community and expert medical services for our patients,” said Kelly H. Adams, chief executive officer of Mountain Vista Medical Center. “Our hospital is designed to be a place of healing. Our skilled and experienced staff is committed to providing excellent care and service.”

Mountain Vista is a 178-bed hospital, featuring all private rooms. Designed to provide comprehensive healthcare services for residents of the East Valley, the hospital is conveniently located in Mesa, just north of US 60 at South Crismon Road and Southern Avenue.

Mountain Vista offers a broad spectrum of health services, including emergency medicine, comprehensive heart care, maternity services, an orthopedics program, intensive care for the critically ill and injured, a wide variety of surgical procedures, advanced diagnostic imaging services and general medical care.

The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and advanced technology, including computerized patient charting and electronic health records. Other clinical systems are designed to enhance hospital safety, improve the patient experience and create a more efficient work environment for doctors and nurses.

The $175-million, three-story hospital facility is the first building to open on Mountain Vista’s campus. One of two medical office buildings is scheduled to open later this month. Both medical office buildings will be connected to the main hospital via enclosed, climate controlled connector bridges.

Mountain Vista will open with nearly 350 employees. Approximately 200 physicians, representing a wide range of medical specialties, will serve on the hospital’s medical staff.

Highlights of the high-tech hospital include:

EMERGENCY SERVICES
The emergency department at Mountain Vista is one of the largest in the East Valley and is equipped to handle almost any emergency. The 30-bed unit includes special treatment rooms for major cases, cardiac emergencies and women’s services. Other features include:

Bedside Registration
Bedside registration allows patients to move directly from triage to treatment for uninterrupted medical care. Family members are able to stay with the patient, rather than being pulled away to complete registration forms and other paperwork.

Fast-Track Area
The five-bed fast-track is designed to cut down on wait times by providing prompt care for patients with less serious illnesses and injuries. By using the fast-track for minor cases during peak hours, other ER exam rooms remain available for patients with more critical emergencies.

Dedicated 40-slice CT Scanner
The ER’s 40-slice CT scanner enables doctors to see detailed images from inside the body. By dedicating such sophisticated technology to the emergency department, patients in the ER do not have to be moved to other parts of the hospital for key diagnostic tests.

Helipad
A helipad is located at ground level directly across from the Emergency entrance, enabling rapid transfer into the hospital for patients who arrive via life flight services.

ER Play Area
A play area in the waiting room provides a family-friendly environment for children who are waiting on patients receiving care in the ER.

HEART CARE
Mountain Vista is designed to become a leading provider of cardiac care. The hospital’s extensive cardiovascular services are supported by advanced technology for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and a large number of cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons on staff.

Cardiac Catheterization
Three cardiac catheterization labs provide interventional treatments for some forms of heart disease, including blocked arteries. Using advanced imaging technology and a thin catheter, cardiologists are able to locate and clear blockages, without the need for surgery.

Cardiovascular Surgery
Mountain Vista offers open-heart and minimally invasive surgical procedures. Two of the hospital’s surgical suites are dedicated exclusively to cardiovascular procedures.

Cardiovascular Intensive Care
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is designed to care for patients recovering from heart attacks or heart surgery, with sophisticated monitoring technology and nurses who are skilled and trained in the care of patients with heart conditions. All of the hospital’s ICU rooms are equipped to care for cardiac patients.

Cardiac Rehabilitation
Mountain Vista’s cardiac rehabilitation program helps patients recovering from heart disease to regain their strength and develop a healthy lifestyle for improved quality of life.

SURGICAL SERVICES
Mountain Vista’s surgery suites are equipped with sophisticated operating systems that improve the safety and efficiency of surgical procedures. The hospital has eight operating rooms, including special suites dedicated to cardiovascular, orthopedic, endoscopic and cystoscopic procedures.

Ultra-Modern, Digital Operating Rooms
In Mountain Vista’s high-tech surgical suites, equipment such as lights, video cameras and monitors, are computerized, giving the surgical team touch-screen control of the operating room environment.

At the touch of a button, this technology allows the surgeon to change the intensity of the lighting, move a camera, or reposition monitors for a better view of the surgical area.

Operating room equipment is suspended from the ceiling, keeping the floors obstacle-free, which allows the surgical team to move easily and improves safety during a procedure.

CHILDBIRTH SERVICES
Welcoming new babies into the world is always a special event at Mountain Vista. The hospital’s large birthing center includes seven Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum suites, two C-section operating rooms, two nurseries, and a 17-bed post-partum unit.

Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) Suites
Designed with the latest childbirth technology, Mountain Vista’s spacious LDRP suites provide a safe, comfortable birthing experience throughout labor, delivery and recovery. To create a home-like atmosphere, all of the medical equipment is hidden away in wooden cabinetry until it is time for the birth. Other features of these spacious suites include reclining sleeper chairs, flat screen TVs, crown molding, hardwood floors and spacious bathrooms with walk-in air jet tubs, oversized showers and motion-sensor lighting.

Cesarean Section Surgical Suites
Two special surgical suites, right on the maternity floor, are dedicated to Cesarean Section procedures.

Rooming In
At Mountain Vista, most newborns room-in with their mothers, which encourages bonding and helps new parents gain confidence in caring for their infant. For mothers that need more rest, or who prefer to use it, a well baby nursery is available.

Nurseries
For babies requiring a higher level of medical care, Mountain Vista provides a Level II Continuous Care Nursery. A second well-baby nursery is available for mothers who need to rest without their babies in their rooms.

Infant Security System
The birthing center has extensive security measures in place to keep new babies safe, including an electronic monitoring system that continuously tracks the location of each baby and alerts nurses if a newborn moves too close to a birthing center exit.

DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING
Mountain Vista’s state-of-the-art imaging technology provides doctors with detailed views inside the human body to diagnose and treat disease faster and with pinpoint accuracy. Mountain Vista is equipped with the following advanced imaging systems:

64-Slice CT Scanner
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Nuclear Medicine Cameras
Ultrasound
Mammography
General X-ray

At Mountain Vista, X-rays and most other imaging studies are converted into digital images for faster results, easier storage, and quick retrieval. Physicians can view these images, via secure Internet access, from any computer in the hospital, their offices or at home.

GERIATRIC PSYCHIATRY
For many older adults, mental and emotional health problems, including depression, anxiety, memory loss and confusion, can be effectively treated through psychiatric interventions. At Mountain Vista a 30-bed unit provides crisis stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders in adults over the age of 50.

HOTEL-LIKE AMENITIES
Mountain Vista Medical Center was designed with the patient experience in mind. The hospital provides a number of hotel-like amenities to improve comfort for patients and their guests.

Private rooms for every patient
All of the hospital’s rooms are private, single-patient rooms to encourage a restful environment and faster healing.

Valet parking
The hospital offers front-entrance valet service and several large parking lots in close proximity to each hospital entrance to ensure adequate parking for all of the hospital’s visitors.

Room service
Mountain Vista’s room service menu gives patients and their families control over what they eat, and when they eat, unless the patient is on a restricted or supervised medical diet.

The hospital offers a wide variety of menu selections, and all of the food can be prepared to a patient’s exact preferences. With on-demand room service, patients don’t miss meals served while they are resting or out of their rooms for procedures.

Mountain Vista Medical Center is a 178-bed hospital, located just north of US 60 on South Crismon Road in Mesa, Arizona.  The hospital is part of IASIS Healthcare, a leading owner and operator of hospitals with facilities in Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, Nevada, Texas and Utah.
