Although heart disease still threatens the health of millions of Americans, the death rate due to heart disease is declining. That’s happening, thanks in part, to new and better diagnostic tools and treatment options like those found at Mountain Vista Medical Center. Early detection of heart disease, proper treatment, and adopting heart healthy habits can lead to a longer, healthier, more active life.
Leaders in Heart Care
Our experienced heart team is committed to providing expert care for every patient. Physicians, nurses, and our many other healthcare professionals work together, and with you, to coordinate your medical treatment and achieve the best possible outcomes. Most importantly, our staff believes in treating the whole person, not just the disease, so you can expect a personalized approach and the caring, compassionate attention you deserve.
Chest Pain
Is it heartburn? Or, a heart attack? A fast answer to that question could save your life. Our emergency department is designed to provide prompt care for patients with chest pain. Special protocols and testing help our team quickly diagnose whether a patient is experiencing a heart attack. Two of our examining rooms are reserved and equipped for patients with cardiac emergencies.
Cardiac Catheterization
Cardiac catheterization helps doctors evaluate how well the heart is functioning and whether there are blockages in the arteries. During the procedure, a very thin flexible tube, called a catheter, is inserted into a major vein and navigated to the arteries around the heart. Using advanced imaging technology, doctors are able to see whether there is plaque build-up in the heart’s vessels, and if so, use treatments such as angioplasty or stent placements to open up blockages and restore better blood flow. Since cardiac catheterization is a minimally invasive procedure, most patients feel better within hours of the procedure and some can go home the same day.
Diagnostic Testing
Our imaging department is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that can produce clear, detailed views of the human heart. Our 64-slice CT scanner, MRI, and nuclear medicine cameras help doctors detect heart disease with pinpoint accuracy.
Heart Surgery
A wide range of surgical options, including open heart surgery, are available to treat and correct heart disease. For minimally invasive procedures, surgeons have access to sophisticated surgical suites that use digital systems. These procedures are designed to improve the safety of surgery and can also lead to less scarring and faster recovery for patients. Some of the most common procedures include:
- Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
This surgery re-routes blood around clogged or narrow arteries to improve blood flow and oxygen levels to the heart.
- Minimally Invasive Coronary Artery Bypass (MIDCAB)
The MIDCAB is an option for those with less complicated blockages, usually at the front of the heart. Because the procedure uses tiny incisions, patients often benefit from less scarring, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery.
- Heart Valve Surgery
This procedure repairs or replaces heart valves that are defective from birth or that have been damaged.
Cardiovascular Intensive Care
After heart surgery, patients receive the specialized care they need in our intensive care unit. This unit is equipped with high-tech monitoring systems to assure that the heart is functioning properly as patients recover from surgery and heart disease.
Cardiac Rehabilitation
The hospital’s cardiac rehabilitation program provides physical and emotional support for patients as they regain their strength and improve their quality of life. Our goal is to help patients back to health, so they can return to work, participate in recreational activities and enjoy a better quality of life. Rehabilitation programs usually include exercise, heart-healthy nutrition, stress management techniques and social support.
