HeartView Scan Can Save Lives
Simple, 10-minute test can detect calcification and/or defects
August 14, 2009

Nearly 2,400 Americans die of cardiovascular disease each day – this is an average of one death every 37 seconds, according to the American Heart Association. Early detection is the key to treating heart disease, which is why Mountain Vista Medical Center is offering the HeartView Scan.

The HeartView Scan is a simple, non-invasive way to detect health problems before a person experiences symptoms. The scan takes approximately 10 minutes and is performed on a state-of-the-art 64-slice CT scanner. Board-certified cardiologist, Julie J. Ramos, M.D., interprets the images to determine the amount of calcified plaque in the arteries, which is a known indicator of heart disease. “For the asymptomatic patient, coronary artery calcium scoring is one way for the patient to determine his or her likelihood of having coronary artery disease. It can be a useful and preventive tool in the detection of occult heart disease,” says Dr. Ramos. Tony Marinello, CEO, Mountain Vista Medical Center, had a HeartView Scan in early July. “It saved my life,” says Marinello. “I have made changes to my lifestyle and I feel much better.”

Mountain Vista Medical Center is now offering the HeartView Scan for $99. This test does not require a physician’s order and will not be filed with insurance. Appointments are available Mondays, 7:30 – 9 a.m., Tuesdays, 10 a.m. – noon, Thursdays, 3 – 6 p.m. and Saturdays, 9-10:30 a.m. Call 1-877-924-WELL (9355) to schedule an appointment or for more information. Gift certificates are also available for purchase in the gift shop, located on the second floor of the hospital, which is located at 1301 S. Crismon Road in Mesa.
