Mountain Vista Medical Center Celebrates Four Years of Service
Full-service hospital committed to providing high quality health care

Mountain Vista Medical Center (MVMC) will celebrate four years of service on July 23, 2011. Mountain Vista is a 178-bed, full-service hospital with more than 500 physicians on the medical staff and more than 875 employees. Offering a broad spectrum of health services, including emergency medicine, comprehensive heart care, women’s services, surgical services, advanced diagnostic imaging, neurology and stroke services, orthopedics, outpatient services and general medical care. Focused on providing the highest quality care to patients with an emphasis on service, MVMC has expanded to continue to meet the needs of the community.
Awards and designations:
- Designated Cardiac Receiving Center by the Arizona Department of Health Services, March 2010.
- Designated Level IV Trauma Center from the Arizona Department of Health Services, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services & Trauma System, Feb. 2011. Mountain Vista is the only Level IV Trauma Center in the East Valley.
- Working toward Primary Stroke Center certification.
- Mesa Chamber of Commerce Large Business of the Year nominee, April 2011.
- 2011 Mesa United Way Trailblazer Award (also won this award in 2010).
- Thomson Reuters’ Healthcare Advantage Award - Health and Clinical Outcomes (IASIS Healthcare award).
- Designated as an Aetna® Institutes of Quality® Orthopedic Surgery Facility - Total Joint Replacement.

Advanced technology:
- mild® (Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression) procedure, a new, safe and effective alternative that is the least invasive surgical procedure for treating Lumbar Spinal Stenosis (LSS).*
- PET/CT scanner – used to evaluate brain abnormalities such as tumors, memory disorders (dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease) and seizures, and to help in the detection and staging of cancer.
- da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System – minimally invasive surgery option for a variety of procedures.
- Electronic barcode scanning.
- Electronic medical records.
- Translation technology available for patients with limited English proficiency and for those who are hearing impaired.
- Electronic Surgery Status Board – provides family members with a real-time status of their loved ones who are in surgery.
Growth facts:
- November 2008: a five-story medical office building adjacent to the hospital opened and includes more than 30 physician offices representing a variety of specialties and health services.
- January 2010: added two additional rooms in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab.
- June 2010: two additional operating rooms were added, bringing the OR count to 10.
- September 2010: the Comprehensive Orthopedic and Spine Center at Mountain Vista Medical Center opened.
- April 2011: second helipad built with on-site helicopter available 24/7.

Community involvement:
- Partner with Midwestern University to offer medical student clinical education program.
- Free community seminars covering a variety of health topics (5-6 per month).
- SeniorAdvantage program designed for individuals 55+. With more than 1,600 members, this program offers health education, support groups, medication checks, cafeteria discounts and a special VIP program (Very Important Patient).
- A combined effort from our SeniorAdvantage members and volunteers provide our patients with homemade blankets, greeting cards, bookmarks, get well soon magnets and much more during their stay.
- Provide free health screenings at the Mesa Market Place the first Saturday of each month.
- Throughout the year Mountain Vista participates in the annual Mesa United Way campaign, hosts food drives for the organization A New Leaf, hosts blood drives for United Blood Services every quarter, participated in the Strong Kids and Families campaign with the Ross Farnsworth YMCA and the back-to-school drive for the Florence Unified School District.
