MESA, Ariz. – Nov. 23, 2011 – Mountain Vista Medical Center today announced that it received a Cycle III Chest Pain Center accreditation by the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC). Mountain Vista earned this accreditation by demonstrating a higher level of expertise in diagnosing and treating patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack — which is one of the top reasons adults visit the emergency room (ER) each year in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
To earn national accreditation as a Cycle III Chest Pain Center, Mountain Vista was required to demonstrate expertise and commitment to quality patient care in the following areas: ability to work effectively with local emergency medical services (EMS), quickly assess, diagnose and treat patients with chest pain, retain trained and experienced personnel, and provide community education about heart disease and the symptoms of a heart attack. During the accreditation process, the hospital submitted an extensive application and underwent a detailed on-site evaluation by a team of SCPC accreditation review specialists.
“This designation, held by only 14 percent of hospitals in the United States, highlights our clinical excellence and commitment to cardiac care for our patients and the community,” said Yancey Gaither, RN, director, Emergency Services, at Mountain Vista Medical Center. “Patients who are treated at an accredited Chest Pain Center, like Mountain Vista, receive higher quality of care and achieve improved outcomes.”
Mountain Vista Medical Center is consistently recognized for its commitment to delivering quality cardiovascular care. In addition to its Cycle III Chest Pain Center accreditation, the hospital is an accredited Cardiac Receiving Center, Primary Stroke Center and Level IV Trauma Center.
